Chronic Conditions
The diagnosis of a disease can affect a person's sense of self and well-being. As a community pharmacist in Ireland, I have gained valuable experience in helping people with numerous chronic diseases and multiple health challenges. Regular exercise may help prevent a number of diseases or health conditions such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes but can also be a useful tool to treat and manage them once they are present. Neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's Disease can benefit greatly from regular exercise, once approved by your physician, and can help lessen the progression, manage symptoms, and improve overall quality of life. Prescribed medications used to treat some chronic conditions can affect the normal response to exercise and are an important consideration when exercising.
I design exercise programs for patients with chronic conditions with the unique perspective of a pharmacist, considering each individual's condition, symptoms, prescribed medications, and safety.
